Held in early December, just south of the White House on the Ellipse, the National Christmas Tree Lighting attracts a live audience of more than 20,000 people for an hour of holiday music and cheer. In addition to the traditional lighting of the National Christmas Tree by the First Family of the United States, the ceremony features star-studded performances by a diverse array of artists.

The 2016 show, hosted by People's Choice and Screen Actors Guild Award-winner Eva Longoria included performances by Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, James Taylor, The Lumineers, Marc Anthony, Yolanda Adams, and more. The special was broadcast on Hallmark Channel, and in 4K on DirecTV.
